Baltimore? Washington? Hagerstown? The stress of staring down any kind of illness is enough (let alone worrying about the possibility it’s cancer, which we can’t help but think about) without adding a long drive in traffic to the mix.
The good news is very soon you’ll be able to stay right here in Frederick and get the same caliber of care in the new FMH Women’s Center, located at FMH Crestwood. Over the last year, members of the hospital system and community have been working hard to create a facility that provides a broad spectrum of healthcare services directed toward the specific needs of women*. The center, opening June 7th, will be home to imaging and rehabilitation suites designed exclusively for women, Women’s Clinical Specialty Suites (including offices for oncologists, plastic surgeons, gynecologists and fertility specialists) as well as the Center for Breast Care, operating under the guidance of our fellowship-trained breast surgeon, Dr. Susan Bahl.
The women’s imaging facility will streamline the mammogram process, doing more in a shorter period of time. We’ve taken steps to decrease anxiety and waiting time. Patients with “normal” mammograms will leave the center with their results in hand. If further testing is needed, we’ll do it the same day if it’s at all possible or set up the appointment before the patient leaves. Other radiology services used in evaluating a wide variety of women’s health issues will also be available, including ultrasound, bone densiometry and MRI. Biopsies can be done in this location as well. This coordinated care will be provided in a warm, caring and healing environment.
The radiology suite and breast center functions will be coordinated by a navigator whose only job is to make your life easier. The navigator will assist and support patients, helping with scheduling appointments, obtaining results and coordinating care.
We’re doing all of this for your comfort and health. We want you to be able to stay here in Frederick, close to home and family, and still receive the best care. We want to offer this care in a special facility that feels less like a sterile doctor’s office and more like a relaxing spa. We’re putting the finishing touches on this new facility right now – just for you. Stay tuned!

* Please don’t feel left out, guys, FMH Crestwood isn’t just for the ladies. We’ll also be offering general imaging, laboratory and rehabilitation services in the same building.
