There’s quite a bit of excitement in the air at FMH this week! On top of the energy that comes with the approach of summer (vacations, family time, weddings — June is full of fun), Monday we opened the doors of a brand new FMH Crestwood and today we kick off a new joint venture with the Frederick News-Post called Healthy Frederick!
In fact, these two big reveals are intertwined as part of the first edition of Healthy Frederick is dedicated to introducing the new FMH Crestwood. How’s that for synergy?
Healthy Frederick is “a guide to robust living” brought to you by the Frederick News-Post and Frederick Memorial Healthcare System. If you subscribe to the News-Post it’ll be right in your paper, starting today (June 8, 2010). If you don’t have a subscription, we’ll have plenty of copies available at all of our FMH locations and at various distribution sites throughout the county. With the help of the staff at the News-Post, we’ve put together a 20-page insert full of medical and health information relevant to your family.
For example, in this inaugural edition you’ll find information describing our new FMH Crestwood facility — just up the hill from the original FMH Crestwood location, right next to the BB&T headquarters on Crestwood Boulevard. The new 30,000 square-foot building is now home to general imaging and laboratory services (rehabilitation services will follow later this month) as well as the FMH Women’s Center — a completely new approach to providing healthcare specifically tailored to the needs of women right here in Frederick County.
As you can read in Healthy Frederick, the FMH Women’s Center is designed to care specifically for women because some conditions behave very differently in women versus men. And it’s not just the obvious (breast cancer, reproductive system issues) — conditions like MS, arthritis and endocrine disorders simply affect women differently than men.
Along with this specialized care, The Women’s Center is also home to a Women’s Imaging Suite and the Women’s Center for Breast Care. The Women’s Imaging Suite provides mammography, ultrasound, MRI and bone densitometry in a private setting.
We’ve also streamlined the process so women who have a “normal” mammogram will receive a letter before she leaves the office stating that fact. If the full-time, on-site radiologist notices an abnormality, any necessary follow-up procedures or imaging studies will be scheduled on the spot — ideally for the same day. Even if same-day scheduling isn’t possible, our patients won’t leave without knowing exactly when their follow-up procedure will be, usually within two to three days.
On top of a wealth of information about FMH Crestwood, Healthy Frederick also includes Wellness Tips from the experts at the FMH Wellness Center. Tips range from taking care of your skin during the sunny, hot days of summer to determining just how “healthy” your favorite smoothie actually is.
Like I said… we’re pretty excited about the new location and publication. Hope you’ll enjoy both of them soon!
