Today (Wednesday, March 2nd) at 12:00 noon, Frederick Memorial Hospital will welcome Nassau Broadcasting stations Key 103 and 106.9 The Eagle, along with local dignitaries and the American Cancer Society (ACS), to kick off the 2nd Annual “Relay for Life Radiothon.”
“This is the second year FMH has partnered with Nassau Broadcasting to bring the Radiothon to the airwaves. Last year’s Radiothon had such a dramatic impact on the public awareness of the state-of-the-art care that is available to them at the FMH Regional Cancer Therapy Center, that we were absolutely flooded with calls for more information about the services we provide,” says FMH Marketing and Communications Director Harry
Grandinett. He continues “we raised a ton of money to help in the fight to eradicate this disease, and just as importantly, we educated the public about the cutting edge technology available to them right here in their own home town.”
“Everyone at Key 103 and 106.9 The Eagle is eagerly anticipating our second Annual Radiothon. The response from the community last year was incredible and moving, and it can only get better year after year!” says Dave Gunning, Director of Programming at Frederick’s WAFY-FM/Key 103.1. “It’s especially moving to know that we are doing this to benefit our own friends, family and neighbors, so that FMH and ACS, our wonderful partners in this venture, can better provide for those affected by cancer in the Frederick area and the surrounding regions.”
The 2nd Annual on-air fundraiser will be held March 2nd- 4th. Frederick Mayor Randy McClement and other local dignitaries will officially open the phones with a ceremony, March 2nd at 12:00 noon in the Patient Discharge lobby of Frederick Memorial Hospital. The 3-day broadcast will feature stories of hope from cancer survivors and their caretakers, special auctions, and interviews with prominent medical professionals who provide cancer care for the Frederick Memorial Healthcare System.
Last year this event raised $28,318 for the Frederick Chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Want to help us beat that impressive total this year? You can donate online at any time, or call our phone bank (240-566-3704 — staffed with eager volunteers) during the following Radiothon hours:
Wednesday, March 2nd: 12:00 noon – 7:00 pm
Thursday, March 3rd: 5:00 am – 7:00 pm
Friday, March 4th: 5:00 am – 12:00 noon
“This event is a successful fundraiser, but it’s so much more!” notes Laurie Frey, Community Manager of the South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society. “Together we are able to raise awareness and spread hope to more people than any of us could do alone. Like the ACS relay for life events, Relay Radiothon is about Survivorship, Hope, and Healing. What could possibly be any better than that?”
The Relay for Life Radiothon is made possible by the generosity of hundreds of volunteers and cancer survivors. Anyone interested in participating can contact Laurie Frey at the American Cancer Society. Laurie.Frey@cancer.org or call 888-866-0757.
