The holiday season came upon us with breakneck speed and we’re speeding toward the new year!
Our work inside the hospital to add eight new private patient rooms to our 4A unit and a new 12-room unit on the second floor continues, with both areas expected to open by Spring.
Outside we’ve been thankful for a stretch of sunny, dry weather so the helipad relocation project can continue as planned.
Here are our construction plans as we rush to the 2011 finish line:
4A: Duct work and bulkhead installations are complete and the rough-in inspections will occur within the next 10 days. As soon as those inspections are done, drywall installation will begin in the private patient rooms. Framing for a new electrical closet has begun and should be completed by the end of the week. The core drilling for waste drains and vent lines is complete.
2C: Duct work installation, electrical wiring and copper pipe rough-ins are finished. Drywall has been installed and the painters will begin priming the walls. The ceiling grid is being installed and sprinkler head placement is underway.
Elevator Shafts: Construction workers are waterproofing the new elevator shafts and masonry work is being done around the elevator doors. The doors that will open in the Emergency Department require the construction of a new wall, and the re-placement of some existing card-access double doors. Some disruption to foot traffic will occur during the necessary renovations, but signage will direct patients and visitors around the construction area.
Helipad: Work is continuing on the helipad penthouse and the ramp leading up to the platform where the helicopters will land. The weather earlier this month was a major interruption to outside construction. The crane returned to the campus December 7th, hoisted materials to the roof and exited the campus on December 8th. It is scheduled to return this week to deliver precast concrete to the roof.
As a reminder, no construction will take place either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
