2–C Medical/Surgical Unit
Construction is complete, the finishing touches are in place and we’re opening our brand new medical/surgical patient unit, 2-C, this week. Friday afternoon we hosted an Open House so our employees could take a look at the results of the construction project that turned an administrative office suite into a patient care unit. FMH staff-members were truly impressed with the aesthetics and functionality of the design. We’re excited to welcome cancer patients, patients who have had thoracic surgery and palliative care patients to these 12 new, private patient rooms.
The nurses and assistants on the unit have been looking forward to this day for months. All of the nurses on 2-C will be required to have or earn their Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) and national certification in oncology nursing (OCN). All Nursing Assistants on 2-C will be trained as Patient Care Technicians.
4-A North Medical/Surgical Unit
Progress continues to be steady on the 4-A North project. If everything comes together as planned, this new patient care area will open for patients in April.
Construction crews are installing plastic wall panels, painting walls and finishing the installation of the ceiling grid and lights. The concrete floor has been prepared for new flooring and the bathroom floors are being installed.
Up on the Roof
Work continues on the installation of our new air handling system, which is inside the newly-enclosed area on the roof. Construction workers are adding pipe and duct connections for the air handler, which is expected to continue for at least another two weeks.
You may have noticed the crane returned for a few days last week to lift metal siding to the roof. It will be installed on the enclosed roof-top ramp in the coming weeks. Crews are also hanging and finishing drywall on the inside of the structure.
Last, but not least, workers continue to work on the steel support for the roof-top helipad.
