On May 23, 2012 the streets of Frederick will be asplash with women in platinum blonde wigs, ruby red lips and bling that could light up a room! These women will be taking part in the FMH Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund’s “Marilyn Monroe” fundraiser. Proceeds from the event help the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund continue the fight against breast cancer in our community.
Last year, 350 women filled Frederick’s downtown, flaunting little black dresses, tiaras, sunglasses, and all the garb to be Holly Golightly look-alikes, allowing Frederick to make the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most Holly Golightlys in one place. This year, we hope to set the record for the most Marilyn Monroes!
Starting at 5 pm., participating downtown restaurants will be serving food and drink specials to all “Marilyns” who have purchased the special kit. A complimentary wine reception will be held at Colonial Jewelers from 6-7:30 pm and Unique Optique invites all Marilyns to come in for a complimentary photo booth sitting between 5-7:30 pm. At 7:30 the Marilyns will gather at Colonial Jewelers to walk the red carpet to the Weinberg for a private showing of the movie “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” Isabella’s “Club Reina” will host a private party after the movie with music and dancing. At the end of the evening, participants are invited to donate their wigs to the American Cancer Society for use by cancer patients. A pink baseball cap will be provided in exchange for the wig.
To attend, individuals must purchase either a General Admission or VIP Kit. Kits can be purchased at Colonial Jewelers, 1 S. Market St. Frederick, MD. The two options are:
General Admission Kit – $65; Includes a gorgeous platinum blonde adjustable wig, wig cap, red lipstick, extra blingy faux diamond ring, bracelet, earrings, and necklace. Also includes admission to the Wine reception, discounts at area restaurants and bars, free photo booth sitting, a ticket to the movie at the Weinberg Center, and admission to Isabella’s after party.
VIP Kit – $95; Includes the General Admission Kit PLUS one drink ticket at the Weinberg and wig styling and makeup done by one of six local salons.
When choosing a Marilyn-inspired ensemble, please stay within the guideline of the following four color palettes; pink, white, red and black.
All money raised will be donated to the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund. This Fund was established at Frederick Memorial Hospital in 1999 by Jeff and Patty Hurwitz after Patty’s diagnosis of breast cancer, and has raised over $700,000 to help the hospital provide the community with the latest technology for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer. All money raised stays right here in Frederick County.
Gather up your girlfriends and be one of the hundreds of Marilyn Monroes who will be enjoying what promises to be a unique, fun night out with the girls, and all for a great cause.
