Caring for a sick child can be a true test of any parent’s skills. From the heartache that comes with knowing your child isn’t feeling well to finding the right comfort measures to keeping the medicine level just right – it’s a tall order.
If you’re a parent, you’ve also probably looked at your sick child and asked the question: is it contagious?
KidsHealth comes from the pediatric health experts at Nemours, which operates a system of children’s hospitals in Florida, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They’re also responsible for the KidsHealth website – a great health resource for parents, kids and teens. In short, they know their stuff.
The “Is it Contagious?” app functions as a quick reference for parents who simply want to an answer to that important question. It offers information and images on more than 85 infections and conditions commonly seen in patients ranging from newborns to teenagers.
Look up the name of a condition (Pinkeye, for example above) or enter in your child’s symptoms for guidance on how likely it is he or she could be contagious.
The app isn’t intended to offer specific medical advice, but it does offer guidance on when to see your doctor and to determine how strict you need to be with your isolation efforts at home.
