Update on Parking Garage Expansion
Construction on the expansion to the FMH Parking Garage is scheduled to begin this November. Before construction can start, entrances to the main campus must be in place and operational.
Renovations at the intersection of 7th Street and the West (Hood-side) Driveway to the parking garage, along with construction of the new temporary garage entrance off Park Avenue, are scheduled to begin in late July.
From July through September, the only access to the parking garage will be through the Toll House Road entrance. Employees, physicians, patients, visitors, vendors, and emergency vehicles will enter through that one access point. Traffic flow will likely be challenging, but we are committed to working together with the community to achieve as little disruption as possible to on-site operations.
Estimated construction schedule:
- The West (Hood-side) Driveway entrance to the parking garage will close in late July. The entrance will remain closed and construction will continue through November 2012.
- Construction of the temporary garage entrance off Park Avenue will begin in late July and should be completed in September, providing a second access to the parking garage and alleviating some congestion at the Toll House entrance.
The temporary Park Avenue entrance will provide garage access for 250 card holders and for vehicles being parked by the FMH Valet service. The Park Avenue entrance will remain open until construction of the garage is completed in November 2013. The entrance will then be shut down and used only in an emergency situation.
Off-Campus Employee Parking Expands
During the year-long construction to expand the parking garage, the main campus will lose dozens of parking spaces in the existing garage, including all the spaces on all the floors that face 7th Street. In addition, the surface parking spaces where FMH physicians now park will be lost to a construction staging area.
To make more room for our patients and visitors to park, we have expanded our off-campus parking for employees. In addition to the Max Kehne parking lot, FMH has contracted for parking spaces behind the former location of the surgery center (Toll House Avenue), and behind the Ashley Furniture building (7th Street Shopping Center). Approximately 230 employees will use these lots, opening up an equal number of spaces on the main campus. Shuttle buses will deliver employees from the satellite lots to FMH in the morning and back to the lots in the afternoon.
