Update on the Gas Line Work – Good News!
Officials from Frederick Gas met with construction foremen and hospital officials last week. They informed us that the work in the street will only take one, maybe two, days and that gas service to homes will not be disrupted.
Park Avenue will remain open during the street work with single-lane passage. The entire project should not take more than four or five days to complete. We don’t have a firm start date, but it will be four or five weeks form now. This schedule works well with the Park Avenue entrance construction, which will be completed by the end of October.
Park Avenue Entrance Progress
The Parking Garage entrance from Park Avenue is progressing nicely. The large pine trees along the west side of the structure have been removed, and grading work to level the land is underway. So far the work has been within the confines of the construction fence. The schedule for completion of the entryway has been pushed back until the end of October due to the hospital ordering a special biofiltration system, which will filter storm water runoff to a higher standard than those systems readily available. The purity of storm water runoff is so important to us that it’s worth the wait for an enhanced system.
Interior Construction on Schedule
Work continues on the studding and drywalling of the nurses’ station area, while drywall priming and painting is taking place in other areas of the unit. The ceiling grid is going into place in the corridors, and Corian shower stalls and bathroom counter tops are being installed in patient rooms. Electrical and plumbing pipe feeds are being installed and miscellaneous floor patching is underway. The project remains on schedule.
Final Preparations for First Helicopter Landing
Final preparations to make the new helipad operational will take place in the next two weeks. The fire suppression system will be tested and approved by the Fire Marshal and then the FAA will conduct test landings and take offs. We hope the helipad will be fully operational on or about September 17.
