Emma Smith Drive Construction
Moving forward we will be referring to the lane that runs parallel to the Hood College campus as Emma Smith Drive. Emma Smith organized the Frederick Community in 1898 to raise funds to build a hospital that “…is second to none.” We have named the drive in her honor.
As you can see from the photo, the asphalt is being removed from the drive so that work can begin on utilities and other important connections that run under it. There will be no direct impact on the surrounding communities or to the college campus. The work will be completed by early November.
Helipad Fire Suppression Test
The helipad construction is complete. The fire suppression system has been tested and internal teams are being trained to receive patients who arrive by air. Safety is the first priority when it comes to air transportation. There are standards and protocols that must be followed, FAA rules and regulations to which the hospital must adhere, and internal procedures and policies established to govern operations. Helicopters will begin test landings sometime between September 17th and the 28th.
Coming Soon: More Private Rooms
Work on the bathrooms in the rooms on 4A is nearly complete. The corian sinks and shower stalls have been installed in most of the rooms and the plumbing work is continuing. The head boards are being set in place as the work on the ceiling grids and tiles continues. Drywall work is nearly complete in most of the rooms but there is still some drywall and ceiling work that needs to be done in the corridors. The project is on schedule.
