Park Avenue Entrance Construction
Construction of the parking garage entrance from Park Avenue is progressing on schedule. The ground is being leveled to prepare for the actual breach of the garage’s west wall to create the opening for the entrance. So far, all construction has taken place on hospital property. In the coming week, equipment will move into the street to remove the curb along Park Avenue. We will let our neighbors know when that will occur.
Emma Smith Drive
Construction along Emma Smith Drive is progressing as planned. Heavy equipment has been moved in to dig the hole for the storm water runoff management system. As reported in previous newsletters, a large trench approximately 60 feet wide, 10 feet deep, and 200 feet long will be dug along the drive to permit installation of the storm water system. Large metal conduits have been delivered to place along the trench to connect to the city’s sewer system.
Gas Line Work Begins
Frederick Gas has started on the gas line leading from the Park Avenue main feed to the hospital. Work has begun on hospital property, specifically the grassy walkway along the east side of the parking garage. Workers will tap into the main line without any disruption to service to the homes in the surrounding neighborhoods or to the hospital. As of this writing, crews have not begun working in the street, but they will soon dig up Park Avenue and place metal sheets over the ditch. Disruption to traffic is expected to be minimal as one lane will remain open at all times. The workers should be finished with the street work by the end of the week.
