It’s been two weeks since we made changes to how patients, visitors and staff access the hospital campus. Our staff is using the newly-paved Emma Smith Drive (along the Hood College side of our campus), our valet drivers and a limited number of physicians are accessing the garage from Park Avenue, and all patients and visitors are using the Toll House Avenue access point. The transition went smoothly, and we’re hoping for more smooth sailing as we continue to prepare for our parking deck expansion.
Construction crews have been busy digging a long, deep trench across the construction zone. Once the trench digging is complete, crews will lay conduit in the trench and run communications and electric lines from a soon-to-be-constructed electric room, across the campus under the garage, and up to 7th Street.
We’re also digging in the area where the newly-expanded deck will be built. In the coming weeks we’ll welcome a series of concrete trucks to create a stable, sturdy base for the newest portion of the garage.
On the other side of 7th Street, just outside the FMH Regional Cancer Therapy Center, another crew is starting the work to add a traffic signal at the intersection of 7th and Emma Smith Drive.
