Do you know a grieving child? Hospice of Frederick can help.
Camp Jamie will take place on May 17, 18 and 19, 2013. Held at Skycroft in Middletown, Maryland, camp is a weekend experience for children ages 6 through 14 who are grieving the death of a loved one. Children are paired with adults who can offer one-on-one support and guidance throughout the weekend. The adult volunteer acts as a “Big Buddy,” providing individual attention to the child. All adult volunteers are specially trained and must meet the required criteria to be a Camp Jamie volunteer.
Professionals are also part of the weekend, leading large and small group discussions on issues such as anger, guilt, and letting go. Children participate in the Camp Jamie Olympics to build self-confidence, teamwork and trust. Many other activities are built into the weekend, making it a truly enjoyable and meaningful camp experience. Thanks to the generosity of our community, Camp Jamie is available to Frederick County children at no charge.
Applications for campers and volunteers are currently being accepted. Forms are available at the Hospice office, 516 Trail Avenue in Frederick, or online.
