As the holiday season arrives, we’re thankful to see many of the large pieces of construction equipment leave the hospital campus! This means we’re inching ever closer to the completion of our parking deck expansion project and adding hundreds of new parking spaces to our garage.
Just before Thanksgiving construction workers were able to put asphalt down along Emma Smith Drive and the spur that will lead visitors into the garage entrance facing Seventh Street. Work to improve the memorial garden on the south side of the existing parking garage is also complete, with benches added to compliment the landscaping.
As the weather turns colder, finishing work will continue in the new section of the parking garage. Right now, construction crews are installing drywall in the glass-enclosed stairwell and elevator tower (on the left side of the garage in the photo above). There’s still plenty of caulking to be done as we fill the small gaps between the prefabricated pieces of the garage. Workers are also installing the ceiling grid and adding lights and fire alarm devices as they go.
If all goes as planned, we hope to open the parking garage expansion in mid-winter.
