Do you know a grieving child? Hospice of Frederick County is here to help. Camp Jamie, our weekend camp for grieving kids, is May 16, 17 and 18, 2014.
Held at Skycroft in Middletown, Maryland, camp is for children who are ages 6 through 14 and grieving the death of a loved one. Each child is paired with an adult who can offer one-on-one support and guidance throughout the weekend. The adult volunteer acts as a “Big Buddy,” providing individual attention to the child. All adult volunteers are specially trained and must meet the required criteria to be a Camp Jamie volunteer.
Professionals are also part of the weekend, leading large and small group discussions on issues such as anger, guilt, and letting go. Children participate in the Camp Jamie Olympics to build self-confidence, teamwork, and trust. Many other activities are built into the weekend, making it a truly enjoyable and meaningful camp experience. Applications for campers and volunteers are currently being accepted until April 4. Forms are available at the Hospice office, 516 Trail Avenue in Frederick, or online at http://www.hospiceoffrederick.org/grief-support/camp-jamie
